Hubert Vonhof is employed as an associate professor in the Sedimentology & Marine Geology department at the Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences (FALW) of the VU University Amsterdam.

I am an isotope geochemist with research focus on climate records of low latitudes. I have carried out and coordinated several paleoclimate research projects in Peruvian Amazonia. Initially these projects focused on the fossil shells of the (Miocene) Pebas Formation. From 2002-2008 I supervised a project on late Quaternary climate records based on stalagmites from the Peruvian Andes. Within this project I developed a technique for isotope analysis of fluid inclusion water, which is currently in routine operation in our stable isotope lab.

Since 2005 I further supervise projects aimed at climate reconstruction of hominin-bearing Early Pleistocene deposits around lake Turkana (Kenya). These reconstructions are based on geochemical signatures of fossil molluscs and fish.

At FALW, I am responsible scientist for the stable isotope facilities of the Institute of Earth Sciences.
